Vore High School: 17 - Displacement

It had been a while since anything significant had happened at ROVE. Classes went on like normal. Students left dorms to get to the classroom though many got eaten along the way. For Lawrence and his friends, the last few months since the Prank War against Harris High had been relatively dull and uneventful. The only noteworthy thing was the steadily improving relationship between Lawrence and Brooke. The two somewhat frequently flirted in the classroom and halls and just as often, Brooke would chase after Lawrence, who still wasn't very enthusiastic about getting eaten. Though at the same time, Brooke's interest in Lawrence had resulted in her warning off many other girls from eating him. As far as Lawrence's friends went, Kris and Jordan hadn't really been doing much other than watching TV, studying when necessary and eating. Robert was still getting help from their senior Elizabeth on subjects such as Economics. Allen and John Pinkerton were usually just hanging out in the gym or on the field most of the time. As of late, nothing particularly exciting had happened. There were no joint-plots by girls to eat the guys, no rival schools to humiliate and no yetis kidnapping and fighting, and then getting beaten by, students.

"Well, hello there." The familiar voice of Ruby the junior said to Lawrence as he turned the corner of the hallway he walked down. Though she attempted to eat him on his first day at ROVE, the two had since been on decent terms, though her appetite still made him keep his distance. "Ruby." Lawrence acknowledged as he saw her. "What are you up to, these days?" She asked him. "Just the usual." He replied. "Doing what needs to be done." "Well, I suggest you take care." She told him as she walked past. "The school year is nearly over. You'll be a junior next year and I'll be a senior." "At least I can act differently next year." He commented as he walked to his room.

As he walked into his room, he found Jordan and Robert sitting at the desk looking intensely at the computer screen. "What happened?" Lawrence asked. "Did Robert find porn that wasn't blocked by the firewall?" "No such luck, dude." Robert replied as he gestured for Lawrence to join them. "We found this kick-ass video on the internet." Jordan explained. "But there doesn't seem to be any mention of its director." "Maybe he's just a dude who doesn't wanna reveal himself." Lawrence suggested. "Could be." Jordan said. "So wanna watch it with us?" "Not really..." Lawrence said. "Well, some dudes on the internet gave it really good reviews." Jordan explained. "That's about as much as I know." "Sounds alright." Lawrence commented. "Catch me up on it some other time, I'm gonna take a nap. I'm tired." He said as he left his stuff on the chair and covered himself in his blanket. "It it just me, or is he sleeping more and more often these days?" Justin asked. "Dunno, maybe all the flirting with Brooke is getting to him." Robert jokingly commented and laughed, until he was hit by a flying pillow. "I'm not asleep yet!" Lawrence exclaimed from his bed, causing the others to quiet down.

(Hours later)
"DUDE! DUDE! WAKE UP!" A voice drastically called to Lawrence while he was in bed. He awoke to find Jordan frantically pushing him in order to get him to pay attention. "What's wrong with you?" Lawrence yawningly asked him. "There's a fight going on in the pool area!" Jordan told him, catching his interest. "Really?" Lawrence asked, still somewhat unsure. "Yeah dude, you really wanna go." Kris, who was standing in the back, told him. With that, Lawrence quickly put a jacket on and went with Kris and Jordan to the pool building. On their way over, they spotted their senior friend Kent who had apparently just left the area. "Dudes, it's getting pretty intense over there." Kent told them. "Still the dude has to see this." Kris told him as the three passed Kent and went into the building. But as the entered, they were swarmed by dozens of other students who began walking out. "Dudes." A voice said to the three of them. They turned their heads to see John Pinkerton walking out with the crowd. "They said there isn't anything more to see and that we should leave." John said as he looked at the guys before leaving. The three looked at one another and wondered what could've happened. "Should we still go in?" Lawrence asked. "Can't hurt." Jordan said. "I wouldn't be so sure of that..." Kris trailed on as the three walked into the building and entered the elevator which then went down.

After a moment, the three guys exited the elevator and saw a large crowd standing around the edges of the pool. They made their way through and noticed a girl standing on one end of the bulkhead. She was a brunette with long hair and was relatively tall wearing a purple bikini. She wasn't a girl the guys had seen before so they didn't know who she was. However, they definitely knew who was standing on the other side of the bulkhead. Lacking his standard sweatshirt and simply standing on the bulkhead in his swim trunks, Gerard Garrison stood there completely still with a stern look on his face. "The hell is going on?" Jordan whispered to a nearby student. "I'll tell you!" The girl on the bulkhead said in his place, having heard Jordan. "Gerard's done for!" "What are you talking about?" Lawrence asked. As he looked at the girl, he noticed something peculiar around her neck. It was a metal chain with decorated gold trimmings on the edge. It was preceisely the same chain that Gerard wore around his neck. Lawrence remembered it from their first meeting, Elizabeth's birthday party as well as the fight against the Yeti. "I see you've noticed." She laughed as she fondled the chain. "I've got the source of Gerard's power here."

"The source of his power?" Lawrence asked. "Yeah, that's why he's as powerful as he is!" The girl exclaimed. "This is why he can't be eaten, it also makes him strong." As the girl began to spout out her words, Lawrence couldn't help but wonder if she was right. Gerard always had the chain on and never seemed to arrive without it. It obviously had value to him but was it really the source of his abilities? "EVERYONE GET OUT NOW!" The girl shouted at the top of her voice, making everyone except Lawrence, Kris and Jordan run out of the pool for their own safety. After everyone else was gone, the girl turned to the three guys and smiled. "I should've known you three would stick around." She smiled. "You guys can be the audience for when I do what nobody else has done." With that, the girl walked over to Gerard, who simply stood there, not moving. As expected, she englufed his entire head, much to the surprise of the guys. "What the!?" Kris exclaimed in surprise. As shocking as it was, it looked like Gerard was about face the same fate that all other guys had. Surprisingly, he did not struggle. He told Lawrence not to struggle but Lawrence began to wonder if he was taking his own advice. As Lawrence wondered, he saw Gerard shift his legs and knock the girl into the pool, bringing himself down as well.

"Go!" Lawrence shouted as the three raced to the other side of the pool to see what was happening. As they ran, a large amout of water shot into the air, drenching the three of them. It was strange since nothing around them even fell into the water, it was just displaced for no reason. As they got to the other side of the pool, they noticed Gerard coming out from the deep end, completely unharmed with his chain around his neck once more. Worse yet, the girl was nowhere to be seen. She was not inside or outside of the pool. "What happened?" Jordan asked. "She got my chain while I was sleeping. I had to get it back." Gerard replied as he got out of the pool, completely soaked, his hair slicked back and body glistening. "You nearly got eaten." Kris commented. At this, Gerard gave a slight chuckle. "She wasn't even close." He said as he walked off. "Where is she?" Lawrence asked as Gerard was about to leave. "In a place where she can't hurt anyone." Gerard responded as he entered the elevator and left while the three guys stayed in place, not moving a muscle.

Later that day, the girl had not turned up and it was the talk of the school. Many people asked Lawrence, Kris and Jordan what they say but the three couldn't answer since they didn't technically see what went on. All they could say was that the girl who took the chain was definitely wrong about her views of it being Gerard's source of power and being what lets him escape vore. Lawrence, Kris, Jordan lounged in Jordan and Lawrence's room, with Elizabeth, Robert and Kent joining them soon after. "What was with that water displacement you mentioned?" Robert asked. "Man, I dunno, it's like it just shot up into the air all randomly like a dive bomb." Lawrence explained. "It's like he brought a ton of water with him." Jordan commented. "Or took some out." Kris added. "Elizabeth, Kent; you're seniors." Lawrence said, getting their attention. "What was Gerard like last year?" Both of them looked at one another and simply shrugged. "To be honest, he was kind like he is now." Kent said. "He only ever attended classes but nothing else." Elizabeth added. "He'd score kinda low on classroom participation." "He disappears for hours at a time but nobody knows where he goes." Kent mentioned. "Do you think he's looking for something?" Jordan asked. "It's possible." Elizabeth stated. "There is something strange about ROVE, you know."

"You mean aside from the fact that girls can eat guys and then they get reformed after 24 hours?" Lawrence sarcastically asked, eliciting their laughter. "Well, yeah, aside from that." Elizabeth laughed. "Do you guys know how ROVE started?" With this, there was silence all around ther room. "Actually, no." Robert said. "I never even heard of it till I started looking for a school to join." Lawrence commented. "Why did you join this place among others, Lawrence?" Elizabeth asked. "Well, it was cheaper than the rest, it had a huge campus, it was out of the city but had the facilities and the photos on the internet showed a lot of cute girls." Lawrence answered. "Yeah, all of that is true, but what about a history of the school?" Elizabeth asked. At this, Lawrence began thinking. "You know, I don't really remember anything about that stuff, or even if it was there." He stated. "Yeah, it seems that nobody can, which could mean it was never there." Elizabeth said. "Why make a website about a school if you're not gonna tell its history?" Kent asked. "The same reason they never came back to us with our physicals." Elizabeth stated. "They just needed to get attention." While the guys agreed that they wanted attention, something about what Elizabeth said struck them. "What physicals?" Jordan asked. "The ones they conducted when we joined the school." She answered. "Elizabeth, they never conducted any physicals." Robert told her. "Sure they did. I saw Blair and a ton of other girls going in." Elizabeth continued. "Nothing like that was ever given to the boys." Kent told her. At this, Elizabeth was silent. She began to wonder why it had happened like that. Why were girls given physicals but not boys?

"I think it had something to do with VORE." Lawrence stated. "They might've been checking you out to make sure you could do it." Kris added. "Maybe even enabling you to do it." The words of Lawrence and Kris resonated through the room, catching everyone who went into deep thought. "The more I think about it, you could be right." Elizabeth said softly. As she looked outside, she noticed that it was quite dark. "I think I should be getting back." She said as she got up. Robert, Kris and Kent followed her up and decided that they should get to their dorms as well. "Come on, I'll take you guys back so no girl vores you." Elizabeth said. "Normally, it'd be us guys who say that." Robert chuckled, which everyone caught notice of. "Really, you wanna walk her home, Robert?" Kent jokingly asked, causing everyone present to laugh and causing Robert to furiously blush. "You're nuts!" Robert exclaimed as he walked past Kent and out the door. "Let's let it go for now." Kris suggested. "It's late." "Yeah, we can always make fun of him tomorrow." Kent comically reasoned as he and Kris left the room. "Good night, guys." Elizabeth said to Lawrence and Jordan as she closed the door behind her. With that, both Jordan and Lawrence soon went to bed as well, closing the windows and sleeping.

(The Next Morning)
"Good morning, Lawrence." A voice said to Lawrence just as he awakened. As he adjusted his eyes, he turned to the corner and saw Brooke, in her standard bikini top and miniskirt, staring at him. "How did you get in here?" Lawrence asked her. "Your roommate shouldn't leave his door unlocked." Brooke said. "Most other girls would've eaten you right out of your bed." "You mean like you did after we fought the Johnsons?" Lawrence sarcastically asked. At this, Brooke began giggling. "Ok, fair point." She said as she slowly walked towards the door. "Now get dressed and we'll have breakfast." Within a matter of minutes, Lawrence got himself ready and rushed out the door to meet Brooke, something she took notice of. "That was fast." She smiled. "I know." Lawrence replied as he turned the corner and gestured for Brooke to follow him. The two went to the school cafeteria and sat down at a table. Lawrence just had a bowl of cereal while Brooke had a bagel. The breakfast was mostly quiet since neither said much to the other but when both were finished, it was Brooke who spoke first. "The year is almost over." She said.

The words made Lawrence think about all the things he'd experienced over the last year, such as his first time seeing vore, Vore ed., getting eaten for the first time, Elizabeth's birthday, the fight against the Yeti, getting kidnapped and forced to sing as well as the prank war against Harris High. "Yeah, you're right." Lawrence admitted. "I know it might be hard to believe, but I think you're pretty cool, Lawrence." Brooke told him with a genuine smile on her face. "That's not surprising." Lawrence sarcastically commented with a sly look on his face. "Oh, you." Brooke replied in a similar tone before looking at him strongly. "So what was up with that fiasco in the pool yesterday?" "That? I don't know." Lawrence answered. "It's just a mystery at this point." "Well, ROVE is full of weird things, isn't it?" Brooke asked, causing Lawrence to nod.

"Sure is."
